Maria collaborated with sales and news departments to launch a community call-to-action campaign branded #SwimSafe.
She saw a need for a drowning prevention campaign when water safety experts shared their concerns the pandemic’s work-from-home culture would impact adult supervision and contribute to more drownings. As the lead spokesperson, her dedication resulted in several news stories, public service announcements, and a partnership between AZ Family and Valley of the Sun YMCA.
Prior to Maria’s TV news career, she earned a scholarship on the Northern Arizona University women’s swimming and diving team. She spent her youth and teen years swimming competitively and working as a lifeguard and swim instructor.
